PRUNING
Pruning can often be a part of a comprehensive maintenance plan, but can also be an occasional or one-time service. Many landscapers lack the knowledge or training to properly care for the various shrubs and trees in our region. Trust Redwood to advise you and get the job done right!
THE PERILS OF POOR PRUNING
Other than trash being run over by mowers, and leaves, grass clippings and other debris being blown out into the street, the other big mistakes being made in landscape maintenance or management is pruning.
It seems as though many landscapers, or those posing as landscapers have decided that shear pruning is the way to prune ALL PLANTS, and that is simply incorrect. There are some plants that are ok to shear prune in the Southern Landscape, but most are not.
Shear or power pruning using motorized tools may create a highly groomed look, but for most plants this is not good.

It causes defoliation on the interior of the plants, increases the chance of disease to take hold, and makes a more welcoming home for unwanted pests. It also disrupts or completely removes the bloom cycle preventing flowers from developing which takes away from the beauty of your landscape and reduces pollination opportunities for our bees and other pollinators.
